A WORD ABOUT FRAGRANCE OILS:
Fragrance
oils, often called scented-oils or body oils, are man-made chemical
compounds which mimic and effuse a near-perfect copy of the scent of flowers, plants, foods, and other natural items. Prior to World War
II, most perfumes were made with the distilled/extracted essences of
real flowers, leaves, bark, and resins. Since that time,
however, most perfumes (even designer-label lines) have been created
using artificial means to achieve the pleasant fragrances we enjoy
wearing. The ingredients are well-kept secrets, carefully guarded by
perfume manufacturers so as to protect their "recipes".
With the
increased emphasis upon living a more healthy and "natural" lifestyle
during recent years, information has come to light (regarding the
origin of perfume ingredients) which should likely concern us all. Based upon her own research, Lynnie has discerned that the origin of many
fragrance/perfume ingredients involves the isolation of certain petroleum
distillates by chemists in a laboratory-setting. Other ingredients (both
natural and synthetic) are added until the desired aroma is achieved.
Recently, claims have been made by investigators asserting that certain
ingredients in perfumes would shock the public. However, thus far, the
FDA allows perfume oil formulators to protect their proprietary formulations by
keeping all details private.
For that reason, we at Blue Jewel recommend that our customers begin to look to Mother Nature (and her pure plant
Essential Oils) for their fragrance needs. We are happy to provide
recommendations for (and even samples of) body products scented with
natural Essential Oils. If you are unable to find scent-satisfaction there amidst the natural
gifts of Mother Nature, we recommend that our customers lighten their
chemical-load by (amongst other means) using their synthetic
fragrance oils sparingly.
